I love a good disaster. My husband has actually forbidden me from watching shows like "Air Emergency." So naturally I can't resist a good ole fashioned Washington DC snowstorm. I listened to WTOP all day, hearing the predicted snow totals go up and up and up. When the government closed at three, I slipped home a little early to find Massimo and LuLu curled up0 together on the couch, under one of the snuggle blankets, watching a movie on the other, other love of his life, our Apple TV. I curled up on the corner chair and we alternated gazing at the HD screen and the sleet change to snow. We had already decided to go to Corduroy, especially since the grocery store is pretty much the last place you want to be in the DC area when inclement weather is predicted. In our family, we joke that you need to buy toilet paper... and milk.
We walked a very reluctant maltipoo over to the liquor store for our typical order, a bottle of a bottle of Pinot (him) and a bottle of Alexander Valley Chardonnay (me). As the snow started blowing sideways, LuLu decided to quit walking and opt for a pick up by the mamma. Massimo and I shared a couple of glasses - after carefully wiping LuLu's tiny foot pads to remove any road salt, got dressed and headed out the door, into the blinding snow and... right around the corner into the warm, dark and woody feel of Corduroy.
We were the only patrons, just us and the staff and we enjoyed a lovely bottle of Pinot, while many committee sat stuck on the GW for up to 12 hours. Thank god we live in DC.
"You're our first guests of the evening," the maitre'd said. It was 7 o'clock, and man, he wasn't kidding. Our waitress, Casey,
